Top Wood

European Spruce, naturally seasoned. All tops are split wood wedges to maximize vertical grain lines and minimize grain runout. The outside surfaces of the wedges are trued up with the saw and sawed through the center leaving a small tab at one end to keep the matched halves together throughout the long curing process. Tops are always two-piece.

European Maple, naturally seasoned. All woods for constructing the back and sides of violins, violas, and cellos are selected for tonal qualities and beauty of grain pattern.
